The Caribbean Association of Women in Construction (CARAWIC) was formed to provide a network of support and guidance for women in Construction and related fields. Women make up less than 5% of the construction work force and face unique challenges that as a group we can solve together. CARAWIC is dedicated to finding solutions to obstacles faced by our members in their daily working lives as well as on their pathway to leadership in a male dominated field. Our organization is a vehicle for women in the profession to spearhead the changes they would like to see in the Caribbean Construction Industry, changes that require the dedication of like minded individuals, progress that not only benefits women but each country and by extension, the entire region.
Women make up only 1% of the Construction Industry in the Caribbean and even a smaller amount have managed to break through from middle management and supportive roles into leadership. CARAWIC intends to work with women and girls to feel confident in this male dominated field, to step forward, overcome obstacles and biases and get the required training, education and leadership skills to become team leads, and business owners.
Local professionals are often disregarded by foreign investors who tend to feel our region lack capable professionals, organizations and even tradesmen. This results in missed opportunities as well as a lower pay scale being applied to locals in comparison to imported professionals. Pay scales set by local governing bodies are unrealistically low and result in brain drain. CARAWIC intends to increase the credibility, and confidence in local professionals and change the mindset that we are less capable and should earn less.
CARAWIC offers leadership training as well as guidance on professional certification to boost your marketability. We work to get prices on courses reduced or free for our members. Our mentors help guide you in your career choice as well as provide recommendations and referrals for active members for high quality jobs in organizations that work with us.

Our approved career coaches provide guidance and help towards achieving your career goals, sometimes in our career we face roadblocks and just need assistance getting past them.
CARAWIC has partnered with experts in gender sensitivity to provide training and workshops in an effort to address biases hostility, harassment and under valuing on women in technical fields. This ensures both employees and employers have the tools of prevention and guidance in order to help encourage and protect women in the field.
