Why Join CARAWIC

The number of Women in Construction and Engineering in the Caribbean has been growing, however, the numbers are still low, averaging about 5% across the region. Women in the field often face biases and limited opportunities, as well as social and cultural barriers. These challenges can be attributed to a lack of gender diversity in these industries, as well as a lack of support for women pursuing careers in construction and engineering. There is a perception that women are not as capable as men in Construction and Engineering fields,  this lack of confidence results in women being less likely to be promoted to leadership positions or given opportunities to work on high-profile projects.

Despite the strides women have made, more needs to be done to address these challenges and to support women pursuing careers in construction and engineering. Women in the industry may face resistance to their authority, second guessing from colleagues, intimidation, and harassment, however, there is limited recourse for addressing these issues within organizations.

Join CARAWIC and help us to promote gender diversity, advocate for opportunities for women in the industry, support other women by volunteering to be a mentor or sign up to receive career coaching or training to improve your skills. You may also have your own ideas of where change or growth is needed and the best way to make progress is by working with a group of like minded individuals on programs to address those issues. By joining CARAWIC and combating the challenges faced by women in construction, you can help unlock the potential of the Caribbean's female workforce and drive economic growth and development in the region.
